FAQs for Boston UNiversity

WHAT IS NEMO?

NEMO is the easiest and most convenient way to get your bike fixed.

WHAT'S INCLUDED?

On-demand bike repair 7am-7pm, Monday-Friday. All Mechanic labor is included for 1 bicycle. Member-only discounts and benefits. Expert bike advice and recommendations from our team. Replacement parts are charged separately as needed.

WHERE CAN I GET SERVICE?

A NEMO mechanic will come to you anywhere within our Service Area.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

$120/year or $84/six months. Don’t want to pay for months in the deep winter or during breaks? Membership can be paused 2 months for each 6 months of Membership.

HOW DO I GET IT FOR FREE?

“Regular Employees” at Boston University can use the Bicycle Commuter Reimbursement Benefit to get reimbursed for NEMO. Filing occurs at the end of the calendar year and reimbursement payments are sent the following April. Afraid you might forget to do it? Don’t worry, we will remind you about it repeatedly.

DO I QUALIFY FOR THE BICYCLE COMMUTER REIMBURSEMENT BENEFIT?

All regular faculty and staff qualify for the benefit. It cannot be simultaneously combined with the BU-subsidized MBTA pass. Transportation Services has a great explainer page that breaks it all down. Contact transportation@bu.edu if you have additional questions.

Key bike resources at BU:

The BU Cycle Kitchen (or "BUCK") is a one-stop shop for bike registration, access to DIY bike repair space and tools, repair and riding instruction, and more.

BU has 2,400+ bike parking spaces across campus including 10+ secure bike rooms. Note: you will need to register your bike to receive secure bike room privileges.

DOES NEMO DO TUNE-UPS?

Yes. For Members, we will come perform a free assessment and from there schedule and quote a full tune-up if it’s needed. During the free assessment we may be able to get your bike into great shape without needing to book a full overhaul. Once you've signed up, book schedule an assessment here or message our team arrange it.

DOES NEMO SELL BIKES?

No, but we can help you pick one out and we will build it for $60 (or $100 for e-bikes). We do sell accessories on our online shop. Members qualify for exclusive discounts on the products listed.

"NEMO is great! After finding myself with a flat at work and nothing on hand, NEMO came within 20 minutes, replaced my tube, found that my bike needed another part replaced, and had me back on my way in no time. For those of us who would like bike to work but are not experts in bike repair, or sometimes leave home without extra tubes and tools in hand, NEMO allows us to do so with ease. I would recommend NEMO to anyone looking to simplify a bike commute, and any company looking to make biking accessible to more individuals."

"NEMO helped me get my bike back on the road by fixing my flat tire and an issue with my seat post. Their response time was fast and they answered all of my questions during the process. As someone who enjoys biking but is not very knowledgeable about bikes, I feel more empowered on my commute with NEMO as a resource."

“Anyone else ever been running late, finally out the door and on your bike, only to realize that your gears aren’t working properly? Instead of trying to calculate which bike shop was along my route, open and with availability, I just texted NEMO. After a quick chat, one of NEMO’s friendly mechanics was on their way to me. Next thing I knew, my bike was ready to ride! 10/10 service. A must for any avid or casual cyclist.”
