FAQs

Can I sign up as an individual?

Yes, we now allow individuals to sign up for NEMO. Previously, we only allowed sign ups from employees of partner organizations.

What if my employer signs on while I’m already a member?

Congratulations! If your employer signs up to pay for NEMO on your behalf, we will reimburse any Membership fees you paid the previous 6 months. Why? We believe employers should financially support your bike commute and we want your help to convince them.

Can I get service at home?

Yes, assuming its within our service area.

Does Membership cover everything?

Membership covers all the mechanic labor needed for 2 bicycles. If your bike needs new parts (e.g. new tire, chain, brake pads, etc.) then you will be charged separately for those at the time of the repair. If you'd like a dedicated full-overhaul of your bike then see below how we handle tune-up requests.

Why does NEMO go through my employer?

We believe your employer should be financially supporting your bike commute. It will save them money, it’s better for your health, and it's better for the climate. NEMO is a path to start undoing decades of poor habit-formation that employers have inadvertently sponsored.

What is NEMO?

NEMO is an on-demand bicycle repair service. Think of NEMO as your friend you call when you have trouble on the side of the road. You can also call us to come to your house, office, or anywhere within our service area.

What does the membership cover?

The membership covers the labor for basic maintenance of your bike, but if there are parts that need to be replaced or repaired we charge for the cost of the new part.

What bikes does NEMO work with?

We work on most major brands, if you have any questions send us a message with a picture of your bike and we can let you know if we do work with your bike! We do not work on rental bikes.

What services does NEMO provide?

You can see our full repair menu at https://www.get-nemo.com/menu

How do I get NEMO for free?

We always prefer for your employer to pay for NEMO. Today we work with Harvard, Boston University, and Boston Children's Hospital to provide free NEMO memberships to their employees. If you interested in bringing NEMO to your workplace, email us at Employers@get-nemo.com. Alternatively, if you organization uses a commuter benefits plan that pays for bicycle parts or services, ask your provider or HR rep to see if NEMO is covered. Chances are that if you have one you can use those benefits towards a NEMO membership and parts.

Are there extra fees on top of the membership?

We charge extra for replacement parts such as tires, tubes and other pieces of equipment that are broken. We also charge extra for certain repairs that are more time intensive and or require a prescheduled appointment. Those repairs can be found on the Repair Menu at https://www.get-nemo.com/menu

Does NEMO provide tune-ups?

In short, no. However, we do regular check ups on your bike. We consider a “safety check” as part of your membership. If we identify something that can put you at risk, we will fix anything that falls under our Membership Services, and recommend a nearby bicycle shop to help you resolve any remaining issues.

Does NEMO sell bikes?

We do not sell any bikes, we do sell parts and other items in our online store and can special order some items. Send us a message we would be happy to talk about what you are looking for.

Does NEMO have a van or a shop?

No, we use electric cargo bikes outfitted with tools and inventory to come out and service your bike. We do not currently have a retail location. We are 100% mobile!

Is NEMO's service area fixed?

Yes, we are only able to deliver our service to certain areas at this time. We have selected the current service as our primary range so that we can maintain the quality of service we want to provide to our members. As we grow so will our service area, keep up to date with our launches and expansions by signing up for our email list. If you would like NEMO to expand to your area, click on the Service Area map below, and fill out our Expansion Request Form!
